I didn't even press any buttons that time. I put it in, wait a few seconds for WMP to pop up and as soon as it does, the computer freezes. I then decide to see what happens when I try and play a DVD. I restart again and try to open it in WMP and the same thing happens.ģ.
After restarting, I uninstall FFDShow and try to open the file from PowerDVD itself, instead of double clicking it (it freezes). I try to play a video file and it freezes.Ģ. I uninstalled the standard Divx codec and replaced it with FFDShow as mentioned above. I'm starting to think that the problem might have to do with my graphics drivers and not any codecs. Has anyone else experienced this and/or know some type of workaround? I've never had this happen before in either XP or Vista. So, I'm guessing this is a bug in the Beta OS itself.
I then thought it might be an issue with Windows Media Player, so I installed PowerDVD and even that froze. I did a hard restart and thought it might've been because I hadn't installed the Divx codec yet, but even when I did, it still froze. As soon as I double clicked a file, the whole system would lock down the mouse would freeze and Ctrl+Alt+Del did nothing. The problem came when I went to play a few of my AVI files.
I even managed to install the Intel onboard graphics drivers even though they haven't been updated since 2004. Much to my surprise it seems to be running much faster than XP SP3 on my other partition (the boot time alone is about 10 seconds compared to almost 30 seconds with XP - don't even get me started about the time I tried to run Vista ultimate on this thing). I'm actually running it on my dinosaur of a computer, a P4 1.8Ghz. Ok, so I've been playing around with the leaked Beta for the past few hours and it's been working great for the most part.
